The goal of the M Dictionary is to not just define design and technology terms, but explain them as well. Definitions of these terms are helpful, but explanations with examples are even better. - Adobe: A software company that produces software that Mpire Design uses to create designs.
- Adobe Reader: A free software that allows you to read PDF documents.
- Architectural Rendering: A 3-D model of an architectural project used to show as a representation before actual construction.
- Bleed: A specific area used when printing that determines where the print cut will happen.
- Blueprint: A scale drawing of booth space layout, construction, and specifications.
- Booth: The specific area assigned by management to the exhibitor under contractual agreement.
- CD-R: A Compact Disc that can be written to once. It is capabale of storing 750Mb of information.
- Content Management System (CMS): An application built to allow you to make changes to your website without any knowledge of programming or specific software.
- Design: What we practice and are passionate about.
- Extension: What Mpire Design can offer you if you have not compensated us for our work.
- Flash: A form of animation based on action scrpt coding used on the internet.
- Graphic Design: The use of typography, visuals and representation to produce feeling.
- Hosting: Where files that are used to create websites are stored.
- Internet: A group of networks connected together all over the world.
- Illustrator: A vector graphics editor.
- Jpeg: (Joint Photographic Experts Group) A compressed image file format.
- Kilobyte: A unit of digital information storage equal that 1,000 bytes.
- Local: Mpire Design serves all the Houston area and its surrounding areas.
- Memory: Identifies internal data storage areas in the computer.
- Network: (Computer network) is group of computers that are connected together.
- Overtime: A designation for work performed outside the hours specified as normal hours.
- Pixelation: When the image looks smooth when zoomed out, but when viewed closely, the eye can distinguish individual square like distortions.
- Photoshop: A graphics manipulation and editing program.
- PHP Programming: A programming launguage used on websites to access data and create functionality.
- QuickTime: A proprietary multimedia framework, capable of handling various formats of digital video, media clips, sound, text, animation.
- Rendering: A black & white or visual design concept.
- Set Up Drawings: Drawings which give detailed instructions for the installation of an exhibit.
- Table Top Display: An exhibit designed for use of a table or similar surface.
- Usage of Space: Graphic design is important overall; making sure that all design elements are ulilized to communicate the message or idea.
- Vector Art: One of the two major graphic types (the other being bitmap/rastor art).
- Water Mark: A recognizable image or pattern in paper that appears as various shades of lightness/darkness when viewed by transmitted light.
- X-acto: A type of knife which may be called a utility knife.
